Two Students to Join The Collision Project
Grethen Gordon & Eva Schultz selected for Alliance Theatre's "Collision Project"
By Staff Writer Sam Crawley

Atlanta, GA - Gretchen Gordon & Eva Schultz were selected for Alliance Theatre's "Collision Project" Summer Program.

After submitting writing samples and doing an improvisational audition, Gretchen Gordon and Eva Shultz have been selected by The Alliance Theatre, in Atlanta, to join other
theatre students from the Atlanta metro area and participate in this year's Collision Project at the Woodruff Arts Center.

Each summer, the Alliance Theatre gathers a group of 15-20 teenagers. During a three-week intensive workshop, the teens steep themselves in a classic play - this year they will be creating and performing their own spin off of William Shakespeare's classic tragedy, King Lear.

Under the guidance of Alliance professionals and guest artists, the teens get to know the play intimately, and take it apart to discover its most potent elements (themes, characters, plot, subplot, dialogue, action, etc.) Then the teens identify elements in their own environment and their own lives that correspond to what they discover in the play. This process may involve performance exercises, traditional research, oral history, interviewing, photography or video, autobiographical, improvisational writing, and more.

Finally, the teens use what they have gathered to create raw material for a new play for young audiences, based on the classic in some form but wholly their own. Ideally, that raw material resounds like a jazz riff on a classic tune. The Alliance's professionals and guest artists then shape the students' material into a script that the Alliance can produce and tour to high schools.
